Tunisia-SNJT warns against violation of journalists’ rights

The SNJT (National Union of Tunisian Journalists) executive bureau issued a statement following its meeting warning against the continuation of the political crisis coupled with health, economic and social policy, calling on the parties involved to set the national interest first.

The SNJT warned of the gravity of the upsurge in violence against journalists and attacks on freedom of the press and expression in addition to the violation of the right to access to information. The union blamed Hichem Mechichi’s administration for the decline of the situation of public media establishments.

It additionally condemned the government’s procrastination to pay the aid reserved for establishments damaged by the Covid pandemic, while warning the supervisors of the private media against any violation of the rights of journalists under the guise of the consequences of the epidemic situation.
