Tunisia-Soon, electronic bracelet instead of imprisonment

As part of the optimization of the prison administration, an electronic bracelet is set to replace incarceration in a prison, soon.

Jamel Shaba, the Attorney General in charge of Criminal Affairs at the Ministry of Defense, stated that this project is part of a policy of decreasing pressure in prisons which continues, notwithstanding the pardon granted by the president of the Republic. Certainly, Decree 29 of June 10 was published to optimize sentences and in the light of the COVID-19 health crisis, according to Mr Shaba.

The legislator has activated this project in order to be able to monitor prisoners remotely. Indeed, his movements will be limited within a well-defined geographical area where he can move, work, study, etc.

Furthermore, this alternative criminal approach only concerns sentences of up to one year and excludes major sentences in order to protect the security of the country.
