Several “independent merchants” demonstrated today, Friday, February 9, 2024, to demand the acceleration of decisions regarding their establishment in the markets designated to them after having been stopped from setting up their stalls in an anarchic manner in the streets of the capital.
Moez Al-Alawi, member of the National Executive Office of the Tunisian Union in charge of independent traders, told the press that the delay in giving construction decisions in the selected spaces and the long period of unemployment of traders led to the decline of their social situation.
In this context, he called on the President of the Republic to interfere urgently in this matter, demanding that the rest of the procedures related to this category be finished and that they receive support.
He alerted of the possibility of a return to lawless stalls on the streets of the capital if the situation continues like this, particularly with the advent of the holy month of Ramadan.
