Tunisia-Tahri: UGTT’s position on lifting subsidies and freezing wages remains unchangeable (Audio)

Sami Tahri spokesperson for the UGTT spokesperson Sami Tahri told Tunisie Numérique that the UGTT had voiced its opinion during its meeting with the delegation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and disclosed its position against the wage freeze, the rise in subsidies and the cessation of public institutions, which shows that the government’s program does not represent a solution to the country’s problems.

Tahri confirmed that the union’s position will not alter and that the union organization will not accept any position including these measures, clarifying that the IMF loan was not connected to the month of March. , but rather to negotiations.

Speaking on the consequences of not reaching a deal with the IMF, he said that the government takes responsibility, specifically since the 2022 budget law has been signed and has not been examined with any party.
He continued that the state budget is “unrealistic” from the beginning and that the Minister of Finance is seeking easy solutions without mentioning critical issues such as recovery and debts, emphasising that the UGTT does not assume any responsibility. but rather bears the responsibility of protecting wages, public institutions and the general people.
