Tunisia-Tataouine: 450 cases of typhoid fever confirmed

The number of people suffering from typhoid fever in the governorate of Tataouine (southern Tunisia) has increased to 450 confirmed cases since June 9, when 7 new infections were detected, the TAP reported.

The number of contaminations increased rapidly towards the end of June 2020, with an average of 30 to 40 cases per day.

In a statement to the news outlet , a source in charge of the Tataouine Basic Health Unit said that the majority of infections are in the Tataouine-Nord and Tataouine-Sud delegations.

Most of the infections are caused by horizontal infection, mainly within families.

Legmi, the juice extracted from the heart of the date palm, and contaminated food are probably causes of this disease.
