Tunisia-The coast guards retrieve the bodies of 24 illegal migrants in one day

The Tunisian coastguard has retrieved the bodies of 24 African illegal migrants who died when their sailboat sank near Zarzis. Carrying 87 migrants the vessel sailed from Libya with the intention of heading toward Italy. Only three people survived the tragedy.

In an official statement to Tunisie Numérique,” the southern province Coast Guard Spokesman Captain Rashid Bouzidi stated that the retrieved bodies were discovered washed up on the shore in a disintegrated state.
The migrants’ discovered remains are subjected to genetic testing before their proper burial. Until now, genetic analysis has been carried out on 28 discovered bodies before being buried in Gabes. The remaining bodies are still in the local hospital while others are waiting to be promptly moved after being retrieved from the sea.
