Tunisia-The level of salt in bread: the ministries of health and Commerce warn

Dr Faycel Smaali, Head of Non-Communicable Diseases Unit in the Basic Health Directorate at the Ministry of Health declared this morning that on the occasion of World Salt Awareness Week, the Ministry of Health has decided to launch a campaign to fight non-communicable diseases, which seeks in particular to lower the consumption of sugar and salt, tobacco and to exercise more physical activity.

He added that the Ministries of Health and Commerce will soon issue a mutual decree regulating the level of salt in bread. The speaker again specified that the Tunisian citizen consumes 12 g of salt per day, while the experts call not to surpass 5 g of salt per day.
