Tunisia-Three cases of South African COVID variant detected in Tunisia

The Ministry of Health declared in a statement made public on Saturday, May 29, 2021, that three cases of the COVID-19 South African variant were identified in Tunisia among passengers coming from abroad.

The ministry stated that two cases have been reported in passengers from Saudi Arabia. They were in compulsory quarantine in a hotel. The variant was discovered during a test performed on the fifth day of confinement.

The third case was detected in a passenger arriving from France. She was spared from compulsory quarantine because she was accompanying minors. Her contamination was detected during her self-isolation. Further efforts will be made to determine contact cases.

Confronted with the serious and dangerous epidemic situation, the ministry recalls the necessity to comply with all health measures and invites citizens to be vigilant and to respect barrier gestures.
