Tunisia-New public transport fares

The Tunis Transport Compan declared an alteration in bus and metro transport fares which will lead to a rise in several tickets and a reduction in others,  CEO of the company  Moez Salem told the TAP agency.
He explained that the company will implement, from 01 June 2021, the new tariffs which have only increased once in 2010. The maintenance of the same transport tariffs had an impact on the financial balance of the company, he stressed provoking an imbalance of approximately 500 million dinars.

The price of tickets for the first, second and third sections has been rated at 500 millimes, the official stated, explaining that the price of the ticket of 320 and 470 millimes has grown to reach 500 millimes, against a decline in the price of the ticket of 650 millimes which will sell for 500 millimes.

He added that the tariffs of the fourth, fifth and sixth sections have been united at 1 dinar, which means that the price of a note of 800 millimes and 970 millimes will be increased to one dinar while the note of 1,170 dinars will be decreased to one dinar.

He recorded that the tariffs of the seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth sections will be set at 1,500 dinars, by raising the price of the ticket from 1,350 dinars to 1,500 dinars, and decreasing the tariff by 1,850 dinars, the price of 2,150 dinars to 1,500 dinars.

Mre Salem, as part of his speech on light rail fares, announced fares will be capped between 500 millimes and 1 dinar, meaning tickets priced below 500 millimes will be removed.

He pointed out that TRANSTU carries about 800,000 passengers per year, however it faces ticket non-payment issues (around 18%) and the company lacks a turnover of approximately 8 million dinars per year.

Salem maintained the company is currently operating on preparing a new checkout system to close the ticket non-payment issue, which will be ready for the next school year.
