The Chairman of the Defense and Security Committee of the House of Representatives, Adel Diaf, reported, Monday, May 6, 2024, that after they visited the delegations of Al-Amera and Jebniana in the state of Sfax, they started drafting a report to be presented to the House of Parliament.
In a statement to national radio, Adel Diaf added that the committee will suggest revising some laws related to immigration, particularly since the security approach alone is no longer sufficient to address the migrant crisis.
Diaf believed that the fines and penalties stipulated in Tunisian law are insufficient, clarifying that a person who builds a boat to organize irregular immigration operations is punished with a fine varying between 30 and 120 dinars and a 15-day suspension.
The Chairman of the Defense and Security Committee also called on neighbouring countries to do their part to stop the continuing encroachment and control their borders, noting that if the situation explodes in Tunisia, it will explode in various countries.
Adel Diaf emphasised that the solution must be regional, not just Tunisian.
