Tunisia- Transport and storage of hazardous materials, government recommendations

A small ministerial council which met on Tuesday, August 11, 2020, decided to form a national committee in charge of the transport and storage of hazardous materials, comprising all the stakeholders in this field, and to instruct it to prepare a report on the question within 3 weeks.

The council also decided to activate regional joint committees to oversee the transport and storage of hazardous materials.

The caretaker prime minister, Elyès Fakhfekh, recommended that the utmost vigilance and precautions be taken in the transport and storage of hazardous materials, stressing the importance of the issue of disposal, transport and storage of materials dangerous, given what happened recently in Lebanon after the explosion that rocked the port of Beirut, which resulted in enormous human and material losses.

The Ministerial Council recommended that the greatest importance be given to monitoring the distribution channels of hazardous materials and real-time surveys for all actors in this sector in terms of transport, storage and operation, in order to avoid all problems that may arise from neglect and indolence.

The Council also underlined the need to exercise rigour and vigilance in the application of the law in this area and to monitor the degree of compliance with the standards adopted in the procedures of insurance and the granting of transport licenses. , storage and operation.
