Tunisia-Tunisia approved by WTTC as World Safe Travel Destination

The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) has recognised Tunisia as a World Safe Travel Destination, the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts said in a statement Friday.

It added that “this endorsement provides consistency and reassurance for travellers.”

This classification has also concerned 30 other destinations besides Tunisia, said the Ministry.

“This the result of the success achieved by Tunisia in the fight against the Coronavirus following the adoption of the health protocol in the tourism sector and the cooperation between Tunisia’s National Tourist Office (French: ONTT) and USAID’s “Tunisia Jobs”.

The Ministry had launched in May 2020 “the Health Protocol for Tunisian Tourism anti-COVID-19”.

This protocol, which serves as a guide, includes a number of measures related mainly to the respect of the rules of health preservation and sanitary security, in order to fight against the spread of the COVID-19 virus in the tourism sector.

The measures, which aim to restore the confidence of tourists and travel agents, is part of the efforts to control the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in tourist facilities and to ensure the health safety of staff and tourists.
