Tunisia-Tunisia confirms 1st death from Shigella bacteria

Tunisia has known, for the past ten days, an increase in cases of  Shigella infection, mainly in children.

As such, the Ministry of Health has issued a series of recommendations to avoid the spread of Shigella, the appearance of which has been identified in various environments, especially in children’s kindergartens.

Unfortunately, a death was registered following. It is an 8 -year -old girl, who was infected and whose state of health deteriorated before she died on Sunday.

This was announced this Wednesday, November 23, by the Regional Director of Health Tarek Bennacer, on the waves of Mosaique FM, saying that the case could have been rescued if it had been taken care of from the beginning of the ‘Appearance of symptoms.

He said that 69 cases of children affected by this bacteria are hospitalized at the children’s hospital in Bab Saadoun and their state of health is improving, denying, in this context the rumor that children have been placed in icu.
