The director-general of the Institut Pasteur in Tunis, Hachemi Louzir, stated on Thursday that Tunisia was officially entering the beginning of a new COVID-19 wave .
He explained that the 25 new cases per 100,000 population is not yet alarming, though that the Omicron variant has become present in 30 to 40% of the samples that have undergone sequencing.
Louzir warned that cases of local contamination with the Omicron variant have been registered, and hence one must be very vigilant with regard to preventive measures.
