At the closing of the 37th session of the Regular Organization Days in Sousse, the spokesperson for Tunisian Customs, Colonel Chokri Jabri, underscored the substantial efforts made by customs to counter illicit trafficking and parallel trade. Despite encouraging results, he emphasised that current measures remain inadequate.
According to Colonel Jabri, customs seizures in 2023 until November attained a value of 463 million dinars, with the registration of 13,000 customs cases, therefore surpassing the figures of the previous year.
During his intervention, the colonel also reported that customs agents, deployed at land, sea and air borders, as well as units working in the customs territory, managed to seize more than 2 and a half million drug tablets, more than 500 kilograms of cannabis and more than 30 kilograms of cocaine during the year 2023.
Colonel Jabri likewise confirmed the move to digitalization of customs procedures, particularly with the introduction of online payment and electronic reports. He announced that the SIND 2 IT system will be completely operational in early 2025, encompassing all parties involved in customs activities.
