Tunisia-UGTT freezes the activities of a union official suspected of corruption

The UGTT decided to momentarily halt the activities of the secretary-general of the regional labour union in Tataouine “for legal and trade union failures”.

The decision was made public on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, by the Internal Rules Committee of the UGTT. It will be in force until the official appears before a committee of the central trade union and proves his integrity of the charges brought against him by various parties.

According to sources quoted by Jawhara FM, the regional secretary general of Tataouine supposedly asked a bribe from one of the companies established in southern Tunisia in exchange for suspending strikes
