Tunisia – Union: Start of school year is likely to be explosive

Deputy Secretary General of the General Federation of Basic Education, Ikbel Azzabi, stated that the beginning of the new school year could be explosive, as the minister rejects dialogue, and the situation of teachers has become critical. He clarified that to date, 3,000 teachers have not received their wages for the month of July, as well as some dismissed school directors have not returned to their posts. He added that this situation raises fears of a true explosion during this return to school.

Azzabi repeated the federation’s call to the minister for a dialogue, believing that this indifference from the ministry was an attack on national dialogue and union work. He added that a meeting of the administrative body is scheduled for the coming days, to study the actions of activism to be expected.
