Tunisia-Unsupervised beaches: Three dead and three survivors in Bizerte

Three deaths by drowning and three survivors were registered this Sunday on the beaches of Dar el Janna (delegation of South Bizerte), El Hmeri in Rafraf (delegation of Ras Jebal) and Jawabi in Cap Zebib, three unsupervised beaches, indicated the regional director of Civil Protection in Bizerte, Kamel Militi.

Originally from Mateur, two sisters aged 14 and 18, who came to visit their family in Sidi Salem on the occasion of Eid al-Idha, drowned on  Dar el Janna beach because of powerful winds, high waves, and the strength of the water currents.

In El Hmeri, a 21-year-old young man from Sidi Hassine El Jayara (governorate of Tunis) passed away from drowning due to strong water currents.

According to Militi, a young survivor was saved on Jawabi beach in Cap Zebib by a team of divers while two other survivors were rescued by summer visitors at El Hmari beach before the intervention of civil protection.

The survivors were moved to Hassen Belkhoja Hospital in Ras Jebal to receive first aid. Their condition is stable and poses no risk , he added.

Militi likewise called on summer visitors to avoid swimming in areas and beaches not guarded by rescue and civil protection teams and to respect the recommendations of the civil protection services and the bulletins of the National Institute of Meteorology (INM).
