The killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis has evoked pain and grief across America, according to a press release released on Friday, June 5 by the United States Embassy in Tunisia which expressed its sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
“We join in demanding justice and express our heartfelt condolences to the family of Mr. Floyd. One former police officer has been charged with second-degree murder, and three former police officers have been charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder. The Department of Justice is conducting a federal investigation. No one is above the law. The tumultuous events that have followed throughout the United States, including acts of solidarity and compassion, have prompted necessary and important conversations on painful truths over racism and injustice that we need to confront as a nation”, Reads the Embassy statement.
“Striving for an ever more inclusive and just democratic society with equal protection under the law is central to the American experience. We are honored to work alongside Tunisia as a fellow democracy in promoting human rights, rule of law, freedom of expression, and justice for all people”,the statement adds.
