Tunisia [Video]: Residents of old Sfax city propose an initiative to solve waste problem

Walking down In the walls of the old of Sfax city, one can unearth abandoned waste piles up in the alleys.

Angered the young and old started a cry of distress against the disaster generated by the garbage, in particular, those thrown by shoemakers and artisans of shoes and leather

This issue professes a true dilemma for residents who lament that the municipality of Sfax has not been able to fix the issue as the neighbourhood is submerged in waste which gives off smells and is sometimes set on fire.

This action diminishes the facades of historic buildings, blatantly trespassing on the heritage and history of the city.

Faced with this situation, an initiative of the inhabitants and the young people of the city was presented to put a conclusion to this hygiene problem and to solve the question of waste which has existed for years.

They suggest that unemployed young people in the neighbourhood take responsibility for collecting waste by allowing them to collect an amount of 4 to 5 dinars paid each week by each craftsman and shoemaker.

Garbage will be placed in the dump intended for the “environment point” devoted to waste from leather craftsmen.
