Tunisia: Volunteer medical team flies to Guinea

The Tunisian Technical Cooperation Agency (ATCT) reported that a volunteer medical team comprising two ophthalmologists and a technician has traveled to Guinea (Conakry) for a campaign to combat curable blindness, scheduled to run from November 21 to December 2, 2023.

As part of the Alliance for the Fight against Curable Blindness, Tunisian specialists aim to perform approximately 150 surgical operations during this mission. The ATCT emphasized that the initiative’s goal is to enhance the technical capacities of Guinean ophthalmologists in the field of cataract surgery and its various techniques.

According to the same source, this mission follows a series of campaigns initiated since the program’s launch in 2003. Within this framework, approximately 30,000 surgical operations, 58,000 consultations, and 218 training sessions have been conducted, benefiting various Sub-Saharan African countries.
