Tunisia’s pleading before ICJ

Professor Slim Al-Laghmani, an expert in international law, represented Tunisia in presenting its arguments before the International Court of Justice concerning the legal repercussions of Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories. This presentation took place at 5:40 p.m. today.

In a blog post on his Facebook page, Laghmani shared that he was honoured by the President of the State to prepare and give Tunisia’s position on the request for an advisory opinion submitted by the United Nations General Assembly to the International Court of Justice. The request concerns “The legal consequences stemming from Israeli policies and practices in the occupied Palestinian territory, including that containing East Jerusalem.”

This week, the United Nations International Court of Justice, located in The Hague, Netherlands, is conducting hearings to examine the legal implications of Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories.

Laghmani underlined that Tunisia’s participation in this legal process underscores its steadfast dedication to supporting Palestinian rights, which stay inviolable, and backing the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state across Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

During his presentation to the International Court of Justice, Laghmani accused Israel of picking the “worst means of genocide” and implementing them in Palestinian territory. He condemned Israel for annexing Palestinian lands through administrative laws and initiating a campaign of extermination starting October 7. Laghmani argued that Israel’s occupation seeks to deny the Palestinian people their right to self-determination and forcibly seize their lands.
