A pastor was killed and two others were wounded in a shooting at a Texas church on Sunday, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said in a statement.
The shooting happened at Starrville Methodist Church in Smith County, approximately 100 miles east of Dallas.
The church’s pastor was killed in the shooting, Sgt. Larry Christian of the Smith County Sheriff’s Office related.
The pastor, who was not directly identified, had faced the gunman, who was hiding in the restroom, when the gunman took hold of the pastor’s weapon and shot him, Sergeant Christian stated.
The gunman bore a gunshot wound to the hand, though it was unclear who shot him, he told.
One other person was also shot and was rushed by ambulance to a hospital, he said. Another person, who was not shot, had wounds that were not life-threatening sustained in the chaos after the shooting.
The gunman was apprehended by the state authorities and will soon be in the custody of the Smith County Sheriff’s Office, he said
