UNSC delays voting on Gaza resolution until Thursday

The United Nations Security Council has postponed the vote on a resolution for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza until Thursday, December 21. The delay is reportedly due to disagreements among member states, particularly the United States, regarding specific language formulations in the text. Key points of contention include the terms “cessation of hostilities” and the proposal for the UN to establish a monitoring mechanism in the Gaza Strip. The resolution also calls for the deployment of personnel and equipment under the authority of the United Nations Secretary-General.
