US says situation in Gaza ‘intolerable’

United States Department of State spokesperson Matthew Miller stated during a press briefing on Monday that the situation in the Gaza Strip is “intolerable,” remarking that the US is “focused on increasing and sustaining aid in Gaza through as many channels as possible.”

“We are pressing the government of Israel to open additional crossings and routes into Gaza,” he explained and pointed out that “it is critical that we maximize the aid flowing.”

Miller also stressed that his country continues “to push for a temporary ceasefire through a hostage agreement” which would “bring the hostages home and would alleviate the terrible suffering of the Palestinian people.” He concluded by saying that the “deal is on the table and Hamas should accept it immediately.”
