Tunisia-Nafi Araibi clarifies details of keeping in custody Maryam Sassi for 48 hours

Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, the lawyer and member of the defence team for PDL leader Abir Moussi Nafi Araibi unveiled details concerning a summons received by party member Maryam Sassi. On February 8, Sassi was called to appear before a team specialized in electronic crimes on Friday, February 29. Nevertheless, a clerical error was identified in the summons regarding the date.

Araibi stressed that the defence team attended the initial summons date to declare their representation and request a delay. Unexpectedly, the judicial police refused to notify the prosecution about the request for postponement and instead rescheduled the hearing to Monday, instead of the corrected Friday, March 1.

Also, he highlighted a procedural irregularity where Sassi was subjected to an inspection on Thursday, February 29—a date that does not exist, revealing a possible misunderstanding or typographical mistake in the statement. This inspection was before the rescheduled hearing associated with the “control office” case outcomes. According to Araibi, this led to the emergence of the case against Maryam Sassi directly from the main issue at hand.

Our speaker added that after the end of the hearing, the Public Prosecution authorized the arrest of Maryam Sassi for 48 hours until she was presented to the Public Prosecution, therefore ending the detention period.
