WHO: Europe could see 500K more COVID deaths by February

The World Health Organization (WHO) warned about the state of the COVID-19 pandemic in Europe on Thursday and stressed the continent could see “another half a million deaths” from the disease by February.

“Europe is back at the epicenter of the pandemic, where we were one year ago,” WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge stated and added that the current pace of transmission of the virus in Europe causes “grave concern.”

“We must change our tactics, from reacting to surges of COVID-19, to preventing them from happening in the first place,” Kluge insisted, calling for more people to get vaccinated.
