5.3-magnitude quake hits Texas, strongest since 1995

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 rattled the ground of the United States southern state of Texas on Wednesday, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) noted.

The quake’s epicenter was recorded in Reeves County, Texas, which is nearly 47 kilometers from the town of Pecos, striking at a depth of 8.9 kilometers. Another tremor was registered at a magnitude of 2.6 and at a depth of 5.9 kilometers minutes later.

The tremor is the third-strongest to have ever struck Texas and the strongest since a magnitude 5.8 earthquake rocked the state’s western region in 1995.
