Tunisia-Ennahdha against transitional arrangements

Ennahdha’s executive office confirmed that continuing to work with the exceptional measures till an indefinite period blocked the institutions, particularly with the absence of a government and the freezing of Parliament. This threatens to raise the economic, financial and social crisis and diminishes Tunisia’s image in front of its partners, said a statement released on Tuesday.

Ennahdha further estimates that the intention to put in place transitional provisions is a dangerous option on the part of the President of the Republic and a desire to abolish the Constitution, the source of all legitimacy. The party considered that an exit from this dangerous situation entails the efforts of all political and social forces in order to find common solutions that allow the country to emerge from its crisis and achieve political stability, which assures the improvement of economic and social aspects.

The movement expressed its refusal of the division of Tunisians and the denigration of opponents while declaring its pride in the Revolution of December 17-January 14 which began from Sidi Bouzid to allow the fall of a dictatorial system. Ennahdha called for respect for individual and collective human rights and for an end to travel bans. The party called for the liberation of MP Yassine Ayari and to lift the house arrest, deemed illegal, which was imposed on many citizens, including the former minister and party leader Anouar Maarouf.

Ennahdha’s executive office additionally called for respect for the Constitution and the lifting of the freeze on Parliament while accelerating the formation of a government whose mission will be to apply a plan of salvation and continue the war against the Coronavirus pandemic.
