The number of people who died after having contracted the coronavirus jumped by 1,163 over the last 24 hours in Russia, the country’s health authorities unveiled on Friday.
The increase marks the highest daily death toll since the pandemic started, and the ninth record-breaking number of daily fatalities in the past 11 days.
Russia also saw the second-largest surge in daily infections with 39,849 people testing positive for the virus within the last day.
