United States President Joe Biden announced in an official statement on Thursday that he issued an executive order targeting Israeli settlers in response to the “activities that undermine peace in the West Bank.”
According to the statement, the order includes financial sanctions and visa restrictions and applies to both Israelis and Palestinians, while addressing actions such as “intimidation, property seizure, and terrorism.”
Biden noted that the situation in the West Bank reached “intolerable levels” when it comes to “extremist settler violence, forced displacement of people and villages, and property destruction,” noting that it poses a serious threat to the stability not only in the West Bank but in the whole Middle East.
