China releases two detained Canadians

China released Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig, Canadian citizens charged with espionage in 2020, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said. The decision followed Huawei Technologies CFO Meng Wanzhou’s return from Canada to China after a three-year house arrest.

Trudeau stated Spavor and Kovrig “have gone through an unbelievably difficult ordeal.” He thanked “our allies and partners around the world in the international community who stood steadfast in solidarity with Canada.”
