Death of Professor Radhi Daghfous: Tribute to an eminent historian

It is with profound sadness that the academic and historical community learns of the passing of Professor Radhi Daghfous, which happened this Sunday, December 16, 2023. Born in 1948, the deceased leaves behind a memorable academic legacy and a career devoted to teaching and research.

Professor Daghfous left an unforgettable mark on the faculty of human and social sciences in Tunis, where he passionately taught history for many years. His extraordinary contributions extended to leadership roles, serving as the director of the history department and heading the “Medieval Arab-Islamic World” laboratory from 1999 to 2012.

Committed to promoting historical research, Professor Daghfous also chaired the Tunisian Association of Historians from 1990 to 1994. His influence reached international heights as a prominent member of the International Committee of Historical Sciences and the scientific committee of the journal “Les Cahiers de Tunisie.”

Beyond his academic accomplishments, Professor Daghfous was respected for his kindness, dedication to education, and his role as a mentor to many students. His departure leaves an enormous void in the academic and intellectual world.
