Doctors of the World in Gaza: “Every moment seems to be the last”

It is with a heavy heart that I write to you to share some heartbreaking news concerning the catastrophic situation in Gaza. We find ourselves in the heart of what can only be characterised as a humanitarian catastrophe, reported Nour, a member of the Doctors of the World team in Gaza in a touching letter to her colleagues.

”As you already know, Gaza has suffered devastating bombings. Most of us were forcibly moved, on foot. Our once peaceful neighbourhoods are now nothing but ruins and ashes.

Our loved ones have paid a heavy price. Almost 4,500 people lost their lives and 12,000 were wounded, including a substantial number of innocent children. We now live in unsustainable conditions. We have no water, no food, no electricity.

Every moment seems like the last. We say goodbye to our children and our loved ones, we look them in the eyes without knowing if we will ever see them again.

We live in a continuous state of fear and uncertainty, with a deep sense of helplessness, despair and cruelty overwhelming us.

The recent strike on Al-Ahli Arab Hospital, filled with physicians, patients and displaced civilians, has deepened our despair. More than 1,000 souls were lost in a horrific act of violence.

We urgently require the world to wake up to our plight, hear our voices and stand with us.

We are in the midst of an unprecedented humanitarian disaster and we implore you to raise awareness, share our story and help us in any way you can.

Keep us in your thoughts and prayers……“
