The occupying entity accepted the United States’ proposal to release 700 Palestinian prisoners, including 100 “lifers”, in exchange for Hamas’ release of 40 Israeli prisoners in Gaza.
Israeli officials declared Tel Aviv was awaiting Hamas’ answer to the U.S. mediation proposal, and estimates indicate the movement will respond within the next two days.
Led by the head of the Mossad foreign intelligence service, David Barnea, the Israeli delegation partook in indirect negotiations with Hamas in Doha on Friday, with Qatari-Egyptian mediation and American participation. Tel Aviv later revealed that its technical team would remain in Qatar after the departure of its main negotiators.
The Israel Broadcasting Authority also reported, citing an Israeli official on Sunday, that the Israeli negotiating delegation proposed to mediators in Qatar the release of 7 prisoners with “political weight” for each female soldier released by Hamas, without Tel Aviv opposing any proposal for a Palestinian name.
