Germany could reportedly send migrants to Africa

Germany is considering sending some asylum seekers to Africa while they are waiting for a decision on their case, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday. Unnamed government sources said negotiations include Kenya, Ghana, Senegal, and Morocco, among other countries.

The sources said asylum seekers whose application is rejected could be permanently resettled in those countries, “as well as incentivizing those with some right to protection in Germany to settle in third countries.” According to the report, Germany is expected to receive over 300,000 asylum applications in 2023. The United Kingdom announced a similar policy in 2022, deciding to send migrants to Rwanda, but its application has stalled amid legal challenges
