President of the Republic Kais Saied had a meeting, on Tuesday at Carthage Palace, with Syrian Foreign Affairs Minister Faisal Mekdad who is paying a three-day official visit to Tunisia as part of restoring diplomatic ties between the two countries.
Saied expressed Tunisia’s willingness to boost bilateral cooperation and increase consultations with Syria in various fields, reads a statement of the Presidency of the Republic.
The visit of Syria’s Foreign Affairs Minister to Tunisia is made at the request of his Tunisian counterpart Nabil Ammar who underlined that it is meant to “restore diplomatic ties following the appointment of a Tunisian ambassador to Syria and the decision of the Syrian authorities to reopen the Syrian embassy in Tunis and appoint a new ambassador.”
