Italy hits new record in daily virus cases of 228,179

The figure for new infections from COVID-19 registered daily in Italy hit a new record of 228,179 on Tuesday. With those added, the Apennine country now counts a total of 9,018,425 cases noted since the start of the pandemic.

In the previous 24 hours, 434 people died from the consequences of the disease. Those pushed the death toll linked to the virus in Italy to 141,825.

In the same period, the number of people treated in hospitals went up by 220 to 19,448, and of those in intensive care units by 150 to 1,715.
