Lavrov: Russia won’t let Ukraine get nuclear arms

 

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told on Wednesday Al Jazeera TV that Moscow will not allow Ukraine to obtain nuclear weapons.

Lavrov argued the purpose of Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine is the disarmament of that country as the opposite outcome would lead to a “devastating” and “nuclear” World War III. He slammed Kiev for not representing every nationality living in Ukraine and accused it of delaying the peace negotiations “at the behest of the United States.” Lavrov also commented on the demands presented in the talks, saying that the status of Crimea is non-negotiable as it is a “part of Russia.”

Speaking about the sanctions numerous countries and organizations, including the US, the European Union, and the United Kingdom, Lavrov said Russia expected economic consequences but not the measures taken against its athletes and media. Still, he also emphasised that “Russia has many friends, and it is impossible to isolate it.”
