The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported on Wednesday that they have found more than 1,200 cases of rare inflammatory heart conditions, myocarditis, and pericarditis, in those that have received the coronavirus vaccines.
The CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices noted that while these conditions are relatively rare, they are still higher than expected, particularly in the age group of 16 to 24-year-olds. Additionally, the cases occurred after patients received their second dose of either the Pfizer/BioNTech or the Moderna vaccines.
The committee is holding a meeting today with regards to its future steps following this new data, and a reevaluation of the risks associated with the mRNA coronavirus vaccines.
