Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, Ahmed Al-Amiri, head of the National Chamber of Butchers, noted that concerning the existing controversy over the extremely high prices of sacrifices, the Chamber is in the process of following up on this issue, as the price of one kilogram of “sheep” yesterday reached approximately fifty dinars in Sidi Bouzid, while it reached sixty dinars in Bizerte.
Amiri added that the Chamber issued a cry of panic in this respect by sending many correspondences to different concerned and intervening parties, but they did not receive any response from any party, emphasising that Tunisia is witnessing an important shortage in the availability of “sheep” which has directly caused the high prices.
The same source also revealed that the Chamber is ready for dialogue and discussion on this issue, calling for the provision of the herd so that red meat can be sold at prices proportional to the purchasing power of the Tunisian citizen, underscoring that the Chamber pledges to sell “sheep with a very small profit margin if the product is available.
