Metropolitan Police declared on Monday it detained 49 people as London hosted the Euro 2020 final which saw Italy beat England. 19 police officers were injured “while they confronted volatile crowds.”
Ahead of the game, some 100 fans broke through the security barriers at Wembley stadium before being obstructed by the police. A fan also ran into the pitch late in the game however was ejected before he was able to disrupt the match. The Metropolitan Police thanked “the tens of thousands of fans who had good spirits and behaved responsibly” and said it will “have officers on hand throughout the night.”
