Security Council adopts resolution condemning Red Sea attacks

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) adopted a resolution on the maintenance of international peace and security in the Red Sea on Wednesday concerning the disruption of traffic caused by attacks committed by the Yemen-based Houthis.

With 11 votes for, none against and four abstaining countries, the UN adopted the draft resolution which condemned “in the strongest terms” the attacks on merchant and commercial ships in the Red Sea and called for the instantaneous cessation of all such attacks by the rebel group, as well as requesting the release of the Galaxy Leader and its crew.
