South Africa’s representative Vusimuzi Madonsela stated at a hearing at the UN International Court of Justice on Thursday that Israel is pursuing a policy of apartheid against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
“Israel since 1948 has systematically displaced and divided the Palestinian people, deliberately denying them their internationally established right to self-determination. We are also particularly concerned about Israel’s institutional regime of discriminatory law,” the representative said at the hearing. He also said that Israel’s actions were deliberately calculated to cause mass starvation and dehydration in Gaza, as some 93% of the population there faces crisis levels of hunger.
