Shootout leaves 8 dead at Russian university

An attacker identified as Timur Bekmansurov opened fire in one of the buildings at Russia’s Perm State University on Monday, killing and injuring several people.

The gunman entered the university premises around 11 am with a gun, injuring 19 and killing eight people. The gunman announced his plans for the attack on Facebook, claiming to be working alone after planning the attack for several years.

A university spokesperson said that the attacker has been apprehended after an altercation with the police. The university has canceled all classes, advising students still left at the premises to remain locked from inside while awaiting evacuation.
