Singapore PM Lee Hsien to step down on May 15

After almost 20 years at the helm of the Singapore Government, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong (pictured) will leave office on May 15, 2024. The announcement was made on Monday by the Prime Minister’s Office.

Lee, 72, will hand over the government to Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, who has been a prominent figure in Singaporean politics for the last 13 years. His ascent to the prime ministership follows a period of leadership preparation, notably during the COVID-19 pandemic, where he was co-chair of the multi-ministry task force, showcasing his capability in crisis management.
