The situation regarding irregular Sub-Saharan migrants remains complicated in Sfax, Tunisia. Hundreds of Sub-Saharan migrants have gathered at Bab El-Jebli, one of the major squares in Sfax, adjacent to the famous large gates of the city’s old medina.
What is worrisome is that the number of Sub-Saharan immigrants is increasing day by day, rather than decreasing. According to local testimonies, new waves of migrants arrive on foot daily.
Interestingly, it appears that these new arrivals are using fields rather than national roads to avoid security checks, fueling suspicions of a new network of smugglers operating within Tunisia.
According to many activists, the complexities surrounding the influx of Sub-Saharan migrants call for comprehensive and timely actions to alleviate the challenges faced by all parties involved.
