Strait of Hormuz: Iranian Revolutionary Guards seize Israeli-owned ship

Iranian television confirmed that the ship, the MSC Aries, which is owned by an Israeli billionaire, was taken by the Revolutionary Guard Navy. The ship was headed towards Iranian territorial waters.

Twenty-five crew members are on board the ship seized this Saturday, stated the Italian-Swiss shipowner MSC.

According to certain specialized sites, this is part of Tehran’s reaction to the attack on its consulate on April 1, which left sixteen people dead, including two high-ranking officers of the Revolutionary Guards. Which means Tehran is ready for an escalation.

In a text sent to foreign media based in Tehran, the Iranian government claimed that an Iranian attack after the destruction of the Iranian consulate was a legitimate action.

At the same time, it cautioned that if Israel reacted, there would be an even harsher response from Iran with the prospect of the conflict widening throughout the region.

In recent days, Tehran’s allies in the region, notably Lebanese Hezbollah, the Houthis in Yemen and Iraqi Shiite militias, have grown attacks against Israel’s interests.

Tehran has warned Washington against possible support for Israel in the event of an attack by Iran. American bases could be targeted by Tehran and its allies.
