Tribal fighting claims 26 lives in Papua New Guinea

At least 26 people were killed in a tribal fight that occurred in the Enga Province, Papua New Guinea.

Two tribes, situated in the country’s highlands, ambushed a third group with “heavy gunfire” which resulted in at least 26 casualties on Sunday, George Kakas, Enga provincial police commander, told the Guardian. According to Kakas, a number of men involved in the incident ran into the surrounding countryside where they succumbed to their injuries. “Some dead bodies are still in the bushes and yet to be retrieved by neighboring tribes,” Kakas said.
