Tunis [Photos]: Conference on the support mechanisms for Palestinian detainees in Israeli occupation prisons

As part of the activities of the Tunisian-Palestinian Support Week for detainees in Israeli occupation prisons, a conference was arranged in Tunis on March 21, 2022, entitled “Support mechanisms for Palestinian detainees in prisons of the Israeli occupation” and dealing with the internationalization of business, with the participation of the Palestinian ambassador to Tunisia, Hayel Al Fahoum.

In his speech, Al Fahoum emphasised the significance of political developments and changes on the international scene, underscoring the importance of official and popular support for the Palestinian cause. For his part, the Undersecretary of the Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Authority, Dr. Abdul Qader Al Khatib, talked about the tough conditions the movement of captives is going through in light of the vicious attack carried out by the leadership of occupation prisons against detainees. Al Khatib pointed to the brutal conditions of unwell prisoners suffering from deliberate medical negligence.

For his part, the Leader of the Carthage Al Jadida Party, Mr. Nizar Chaari accentuated the importance of supporting the Palestinian cause in general, highlighting that Tunisia and Palestine are joined by blood and fate, referring to the martyrs of Tunisia who sacrificed their lives to safeguard the Palestinian cause. Chaari asserted the continued support of the Tunivisions organization and the Carthage Al Jadida party for the prisoners’ file and the partnership with the Prisoners and Ex-prisoners Affairs Authority and the Palestinian Prisoners Club. He called on all Tunisian youth to join his movement in support of Palestinian prisoners, applauding the efforts made by Palestinian institutions. For his part, the Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Palestinian Prisoners Club, Raed Amer underlined the importance of internationalizing the issue of prisoners through the participation of Arab and Islamic communities and the significance of the participation of the Tunisian youth in support of the prisoners of Palestine by posting the practices to which the prisoners are exposed in the prisons of the Israeli occupation. Amer thanked the Tunivisions organization for hosting the Tunisian-Palestinian week, hailing all the efforts made by the Tunisian people.

Released prisoner Abu Ehab spoke regarding his experience in detention, his experiences in the Negev prison, and the agony and neglect of prisoners. Highlighting the importance of spreading the experience of prisoners and their suffering throughout the world. Activities will continue in the forthcoming days in the cities of Gafsa, Djerba, Medenine and Sfax, as part of the program.
